Fear is nothing more then a state of mind. Fear makes us build anxiety. Fear makes us create multiple futures. So we are not in the present moment, we can’t act mindfully. Fear is an aggressive predator of joy. Fear is a mind killer.
Thoughts of fear never accomplish anything, and never can. So let go of fear!
It comes in many forms, and we usually don’t call it by its name. So conquering fear begins with defining it. As our fears are often illogical, it helps to break them down to the most basic level.
In any project, we deal with one type of fear: fear of criticism. And this fear is wrapped by two questions:
We don’t want to hear the answers to those questions. So you have to find a way to accept the fear and work with it to do something that matters more. Those questions will help you.
Everyone else experiences fear whenever they are in unfamiliar territory. So, now that you did this exercise for yourself, before starting the project, take the time to sit down with every stakeholder and discuss his or her fears, expectation, and doubts. Talk to them about yours. All will become human again.
“Named must your fear be before banish it you can.”
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. […] As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
- Marianne Williamson
